Mountain Regions of North Macedonia
North Macedonia is a small country with surprisingly diverse mountain landscapes. The relief of Macedonia is predominantly mountainous. About 75% of its territory is mountainous.
The relief of Macedonia is composed of hills, low, medium and high mountains, plateaus, valleys, river valleys and other relief forms. The lowest point is located at 44 m above sea level near the village of Bogorodica near Gevgelija, and the highest is at 2,746 m above sea level on the peak of Golem Korab.

In winter, the area around Popova Shapka becomes one of the best backcountry ski destinations in the region, while summer brings beautiful hiking routes through remote shepherd landscapes and high mountain peaks.
Korab Region
The Korab region is home to Mount Korab, the highest peak in North Macedonia at 2,764 meters. This area is wild, rugged, and less visited than many other parts of the Balkans.

Pelister Mountains
Pelister National Park, located above the town of Bitola, is one of the oldest national parks in the Balkans. The mountain is famous for its ancient Molika pine forests, glacial lakes known as the “Pelister Eyes,” and panoramic views across the Pelagonia valley.
Pelister offers great hiking year-round and excellent ski touring terrain during winter. The combination of alpine landscapes and Mediterranean climate gives the region a unique atmosphere.
Galicica Mountains
The Galicica Mountains rise between Lake Ohrid and Lake Prespa, creating some of the most scenic viewpoints in North Macedonia. The mountain ridge offers spectacular panoramas over both lakes at the same time.
Galicica National Park is especially popular for hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. The climb to Magaro Peak is one of the classic hikes in the country and combines mountain landscapes with breathtaking lake views.
Jablanica and Western Mountains
The western part of North Macedonia is filled with remote mountain ranges such as Jablanica, Stogovo, Bistra, and Deshat.
These mountains are quieter and less developed, making them ideal for travelers looking for authentic wilderness experiences away from crowded tourist areas.

Osogovo and Eastern Macedonia
